Una festa di Paese La città di Wyndham nella Confederazione sta festeggiando i 50 anni dalla sua fondazione ed il sindaco Thomas Wyndham, discendente diretto del padre fondatore, ha deciso di invitare un circo per deliziare ibambini ed i giovani e guadagnare consenso. Peccato non sappia che ha invitato l’inferno nella sua città. Il circo Voronoff Sergej Voronoff è uno scienziato pazzo, ma la materia con cui preferisce lavorare non è il comune metallo o il vapore: il suo campo di studi è la fisiologia umana. Dopo essere scappato dalla Russia per “lesa maestà nei confronti dello zar e offesa verso la vita stessa”, a causa dei suoi esperimenti, si è spostato nel Weird West dove ha fondato un circo, che sfrutta per raccogliere ragazzi disagiati, militari senza più lavoro e qualsiasi scherzo della natura che incontra sul suo cammino, per sperimentarvi sopra le fantastiche capacità della Pietra Fantasma. Tra le sue invenzioni più letali vi sono i Rhesus, umani mutati in forme scimmiesche, gli uomini serpente e il raggio Apophis, che trasforma gli esseri viventi in una strana forma che nessun esperto è in grado di riconoscere, una specie di misto tra un coccodrillo ed un puma che la gente del circo chiama pumadrilli (in realtà sono dei gorgonops). Tra le sue altre creazioni si possono annoverare modifiche tecnologiche alle bestie del suo serraglio, questa volta mischiando insieme acciaio fantasma ed energia a vapore.
