Star-Board! (1980)

Star-Board! is a yacht racing game with a unique dual-layer board: the bottom paper layer has a square grid showing a constant wind direction, the top layer is clear plastic and shows islands, wind holes and the like. Players' ships and the goal buoys sit on the plastic layer. When the wind changes, the whole board rotates. Movement is via actions: You have two actions, and can either perform two moves ("advances") or two rotations of your boat ("maneuvers"), or one of each. Advanced variants include cards, dice for APs, bigger races, tweaks to the wind shifting rules, etc. The game is US patent number 3871656.
