Between December 16, 1944 and January 25, 1945, the largest offensive of the German Army on the Western Front took place, called the Ardennes Offensive or The Battle of the Bulge. It was the last gamble to effectively confront the Allied forces advancing towards Berlin after the landing in Normandy. The objective was to take the strategic port of Antwerp in Belgium so that the Allies would deploy on two fronts and thus fight them separately.
