Champions (1995)

Champions is a fantasy fighting CCG. To quote the rules: "There are two sets of Champions Battle Cards 'Monster Wars' and 'Medieval Battle'. In each series there are two sets of cards, Monsters or Warriors (Characters) and Spells or Weapons (Specials). Spells are used by Monsters to increase their fighting strength; likewise Warriors use Weapons." The Character Cards are printed with attack and defense values, and the Specials have either an attack or a defense value. All have some artwork and (tongue-in-cheek) text. The Character Cards also have scratch-off areas. During the game each player has a hand of 5 cards and a deck of 15. The first player attacks with 1, 2 or 3 Character cards and some number of Special cards, and the other tries to defend against each attacking Character by laying down a Character and Specials having the same or higher value. The unique feature is that, according to the rules, each losing Character has a scratch-off area removed, which shows a new and "almost always" weaker attack or defense value. The final scratch-off is always zero, at which time the card "needs replacing". So not only are the cards collectible, they are also destructible!
