The red and yellow "tree" piles alternate colors while descending, and the scoring piles are one color only and ascending. You are allowed to play to other player's scoring piles, so you could potentially block them from scoring the card they wanted to score, but everything goes so fast that no one feels like it was mean. Everyone plays at their own speed, real-time, with no turns, until someone's "seed" pile runs out. Then it's time to score the cards at face value. One round lasts about 15 minutes.
