Alles, was ihr zum Spielen braucht, sind dieses Zine und ein normales Spielkartendeck (52 Karten). Keine Vorbereitung oder Vorkenntnisse nötig – spielt einfach los! Die Regeln von Gegen das Monster sind sehr einfach: Zu Beginn lest ihr gemeinsam den kurzen Anleitungstext vor. Die von uns vorgeschlagenen Konsens- und Sicherheitsmechaniken sind dort bereits eingebaut. Während dieser Vorbereitung wählt ihr auch das grobe Setting eurer Monsterjagd. Dann geht der Kern des Spiels los: Ihr zieht reihum eine Spielkarte und schaut in den Tabellen nach, welche der Fragen dazu gehört. Aus euren Antworten auf die Fragen entstehen im Spielverlauf euer Monster, eure Figuren und weitere Details zum Umfeld der Monsterjagd. Am Ende beantworten alle Hauptfiguren die Frage: Wenn euch das Monster am Ende gegenüber steht: Greifst du es tatsächlich an? Dank der zufälligen Auswahl und Reihenfolge der Fragen (ihr nutzt in einem 2-stündigen Spiel üblicherweise etwa die Hälfte davon) und der immensen Vielfalt möglicher Settings könnt ihr Gegen das Monster immer und immer wieder spielen und habt jedes Mal eine andere Erfahrung dabei.
