Bossarino (2023)

Move each other's five hidden pieces to find and eliminate the opponent's boss, or sneak your own boss away. Bossarino ボスサリーノ is a 2 player deduction game from Japan. The game is packaged in a small plastic can (or standard card box), with a cloth gameboard (5x5) and ten chips, five for each player. The chips show a mafia boss, a pair of goons and a pair of innocent bystander. Players lay out their pieces face-down, hiding which piece is which from their opponent. The goal is to either eliminate the opponent's boss, or get their boss off the other side of the board. Players take turns either moving pieces one space in any direction, including swapping positions with the opponent's chip, or challenging the opposing chip when they are adjacent. If the challenge is between a goon or boss and the opponent's goon or boss, the opponent's piece is eliminated (winning the game if it was the boss). If the challenge is between a bystander and a goon or boss, the bystander wins, eliminating the goon/boss whoever's turn it was (winning the game if it was the boss).
