Traditionally, in many fantasy stories, it is the wizard who starts the adventure, gathering the characters together and driving the mission on. They are secretive and enigmatic characters, who wield great powers, yet tend to show restraint in their use.
Knights and nobles have tournaments and the royal court, thieves have their sneaky guild politics and backstabbing (literally), and now wizards have the Guild of Arcane Lore.
