In Pre-existing Conditions, you play as the CEO of a healthcare insurance company, doing whatever you can to keep your profit going up each quarter. Fail, and you're out, replaced by some other anonymous white guy named Tim. To begin, assign medical conditions – ranging from tooth decay to cancer – to 10 customers. Each condition has a Premium (what the customer pays to be insured by you) and a Cost (what you'll pay out if that customer makes a claim). Every time their number comes up (literally), you cross off the next highest number on their Cost table, meaning the more often they claim, the more they'll cost you. The game is played over 24 rounds (2 years of 12 months each). Each 'month' you'll work out your Premiums, then roll two dice to see what claims you need to pay out. The difference is your profit for that month. Every quarter you can choose a condition to deny, meaning you won't have to pay out if its number comes up. You can also use your dice to invest in lobbying, marketing or personal security, to do things like purge customers from your books, add new customers, and get your security level high enough to deal with potential threats. At the end of Year 2, if you have more positive quarters than negative, congrats, you win the game! —description from the designer
