The Ordre de Etoile was founded on January 1, 1642 by King Louis XIII, chartered to: "protect the Crown and France against enemies more capable and terrible than normal". Its membership comprised originally of three Etoile: La Madeline, Cordon Bleu, and Bastille, and supported by scores of administrative and logistical staff.
