Lublache (2024)

Introduction:Lublache (from Irish: lúb bealach, meaning "loop way") is a loop stalling game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the hexagons (cells) of an initially empty hexagonal board. The recommended board size is 7 cells per side, but boards of 5 or 9 are also valid. Each player has access to a sufficient supply of stones of their own color.



Definitions:
A path is a continuous sequence of connected stones that forms a line with a thickness of only one stone along its entire length, without branches or duplications. A path may be comprised of stones of one or both colors.
A loop is a closed path that surrounds empty cells or stones of any color. You control a loop if at least half of its stones are of your color, and you own it if all its stones are of your color.
To flip is to replace enemy stones with friendly stones.




Turns:Black plays first, and then turns alternate. On your turn, perform these actions in the following order:


Place a stone of your color in an empty cell that is not adjacent to a loop that you own.
Flip enemy stones in the loops that you now control, as long as the formed loop includes the stone you placed. Then, remove friendly stones adjacent to the loop that you own from the board. You cannot flip or remove stones from loops of a single color.


At the end of your turn, the stone you placed must not be part of a loop controlled by your opponent unless your opponent cannot own it.



End of the game:The game ends when a player runs out of moves; in this case, that player is the winner.

To ensure fair play, before the game starts, the first player places a black stone on an empty point, and the second player chooses a side. This balancing method is called the "pie rule.”
