Welcome to the pitch! We are proud to bring you Inside the Net Soccer. The game provides a great feel of the sport and captures soccer’s end-to-end flow. Each timed action (using Fast Action Cards) will compare an offensive and defensive player based upon the zone the ball is in. The offensive player will try to pass or dribble, and the defender will have the opportunity to make a play. The more skilled your offensive or defensive player, the more likely you are to succeed.

Speaking of dribbling and passing, each player is rated for these and other categories. In addition, the game captures those players that can make deep passes and even connect with a ‘through ball’ that could provide an open shot opportunity for a teammate. The players have unique shooting frequency, accuracy, and scoring percentage traits. They are even rated for their ability to create corner kicks and to generate goal scoring opportunities from those kicks.

On defense, players are rated for their ability to tackle, defend passes, block shots and of course, commit fouls. Fouls can become yellow cards or red cards or generate a penalty kick for the opponent. Even those players who have the misfortune of scoring ‘own goals’, will have that same chance with this game.

Goalies are rated for the ability to make saves, cough up rebounds, intercept crosses, and deal with Penalty Kicks. They also are rated for the ability to distribute the ball and can help the defense by using their ‘sweeper keeper’ abilities to deal with balls put over the top of the defenders.

One of the key factors is how your strategy can dictate the outcomes. Starting with the formation you play. The game is broken down into three zones. Defensive Zone, Midfield, and Offensive Zone. If you play a 4-4-2 formation, where you have 4 ‘defenders’, 4 ‘midfielders’, and 2 ‘forwards’, this places 4 players in the defensive zone, 4 in the midfield, and 2 in the offensive zone. Naturally that doesn’t mean a forward would never come in to play in the defensive zone. It just means that they would feature less in the defensive zone than a defender or even a midfielder. Consequently, a defender may appear in the offensive zone, but that will occur less likely than it would for a forward.

What this means is that as you play a game, you must decide based on the score, what type of formation you want to use. In addition, if you are protecting a lead late in the game, you may substitute an offensive minded player for one with better defensive skills. If you need a goal, you make go with ‘three in the back’ and put on an extra striker or another offensive minded mid fielder.

Just like the real manager, you may deal with fatigue and injuries, which are optional. And how to handle the player who picked up an early yellow card. Since he will have to play conservatively to keep from picking up a second yellow, you might want to consider bringing in a replacement.
