Dehil (2024)

Introduction:Dehil (from Irish: Deighilt, meaning "partition") is a drawless game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the intersections (points) of an initially empty hexagonal board with triangles. The recommended board size is 9 points per side, but boards of 7 or 11 are also valid. Each player has access to a sufficient supply of stones of their own color.



Definitions:
A group is a set of stones of the same color connected to each other. A single stone is also a group.
A partition is each of the areas separated by a group that cannot be connected to each other except through said group.
The value of a group is the number of stones it contains.




Turns:Black plays first, then turns alternate. On your turn, do one of the following actions:


Place a stone of your color on an empty point. You can create a triangle pattern if exactly one of its stones is on the edge of the board and the rest or all of them (not on the edge) are adjacent to (i) a friendly stone that is not part of a triangle pattern or to (ii) a center stone of an hourglass pattern.
Pass your turn.


It should be noted that the above restrictions apply to all triangle patterns.



End of the game:The game ends when both players pass their turns consecutively. At the end of the game, points are counted by adding the value of all friendly groups with partitions minus the value of all friendly groups without partitions, plus an extra half point to the player who passed his turn first.

To ensure fairness, before the game begins, the first player chooses an integer number as the komi value and then the second player chooses the sides. This balancing method is called komi pie.
