Dogfight! 1939-40: WW2 Air Combat Game is a 100-page, full color book containing a two-player (with solitaire option) strategy card game of World War II air combat, based on single plane-vs-plane dogfights. The game utilizes the Battle over Britain game system, and allows you to simulate dogfights occurring in the European theater in the first two years of the war. Players fly historical warplanes from Germany, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, and Poland. The digest-sized volume contains full rules (and advanced optional rules), individual scenarios, Campaign game, tables, game markers, historical and game notes, and Reference material, Dogfight Display, and two-dozen fully rated warplane counters and Plane Data Sheets.
Dogfight! is a strategy card game that pits authentically rated warplanes in one-on-one matchups. The emphasis is on fast play and fun... not complexity and technical calculations. Individual games can last two minutes or ten minutes... one false move can end it for the best of planes. Sure, superior aircraft have an advantage, just as they did in actual combat. But a weaker plane played well can turn things around. Dogfight! is designed to capture the excitement of aerial combat that keeps you coming back for more.
Planes are rated in a number of categories, such as speed, agility, performance, firepower, and damage. Comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the various aircraft is easy (just look at the plane's counter and ratings) and part of the fun. Rated planes included are: Spitfire I, Hurricane I, Fairey Battle, Lysander, Defiant, Gladiator, Blenhein IV (Britain); Me-109E, Me-110C, Ju-87D, Henschel Hs-123, He-111H (Germany), MS-406, MB-152, D-520, Potez 631, Liore-et-Olivier 451 (France), MC-200 Saetta, CR-42 Falco, Ba-65, SM-79 Sparviero (Italy), P.Z.L. P-11C (Poland), Fairey Fox II, R-31 (Belgium). Rules and planes are compatible with any others in the Battle over Britain and Dogfight! series. Game play is fast and furious, with the system emphasizes playability and authenticity rather than endless modifier lists, high complexity and bookkeeping. Gamers must supply a standard deck of playing cards, and a 6-sided die, to play.
Optional rules cover scenarios with medium/heavy bombers, solitaire rules, and Historical Scenario Generator. Several Campaign Games are included: POLISH BLITZKRIEG (1939), BATTLE OF FRANCE (1940), SACRIFICE OF THE BELGIANS (1940), DUNKIRK: SPITS TO THE RESCUE (1940), BATTLE OF BRITAIN (1940), BATTLE OVER MALTA (1940), and NORTH AFRICA (1941).
Dogfight! 1939-40 includes individual Plane Data Cards (sheets) for each of the warplanes represented, facilitating play.
