The Battle of Kursk started on 4th July 1943 around the city of Kursk in western Russia. German forces made initial advances in an attempt to control key areas before the main offensive, called Operation Citadel. The Germans planned to attack from the north and south simultaneously, in an attempt to pinch off the Kursk salient. After the German offensive stalled, the Soviets launched a counteroffensive on 12 July 1943: Operation Kutuzov. By August 1943, their second counteroffensive, Operation Polkovodets Rumyantsev, was launched. The Soviets built a formidable defence, causing the Germans to delay whilst they built up their forces. In the end, Hitler diverted his forces to central Europe following the invasion of Sicily by the Allies. The Germans were unable to launch another strategic offensive on the Eastern front for the remainder of the war.
In Battles of Kursk, you will be commanding a range of Soviet units in order to achieve a variety of Objectives in small scale skirmishes as part of the main Battle of Kursk.
As with all my “Battles” games, the aim here was to produce a fairly traditional hex and counter wargame experience with clear and straightforward rules and a manageable “opponent” which will not take up too much time or effort to operate, but which will give the Player a formidable challenge.
The game contains the rules and charts, 12 battles with full colour maps and suggested counters (to be cut out and mounted on card).
Playing time: 20 to 50 minutes per Battle.
