Panguingue (pan-ginn'-gay), or "Pan", is a popular rummy game in the Western part of the United States. It was regularly played in gambling halls during the California gold rush. Its exact origin is not confirmed, however, it is thought to have originated among the Tagalogs, natives of the island of Luzon in the Philippines, during the country's Spanish period.

Pan is played with a deck of 320 cards (8 standard decks with the 8's, 9's, and 10's removed -- no Jokers). Each player is dealt a hand of 10 cards. The winner of the hand is the first person to meld 11 cards (his 10 card hand plus a draw). Certain melds are called "conditions" and result in the player collecting chips from the other players. There are rules regarding what is a valid meld, "folding" at the beginning of the hand, and so on. Check out the link to the rules at U.S. Playing Card Co., if you are interested.
