From the Rules Introduction:

Super Nova is a game of intergalactic expansion and conquest. Players start from their home worlds, discover new planets, and compete for control of other planets. Power is wielded militarily, diplomatically, and economically, with an occasional natural disaster thrown in. To win, you must create the empire that supports the most population.

Super Nova was originally published in a collectible format, but is now published as a 165-card complete game.
