Flowers of the Philippines (2024)

OVERVIEW
Collect sets of flower cards to create ‘gardens’. This attracts colorful butterflies which count as points. The flowers and butterflies are all native to the Philippines.

It’s a family friendly card game for 2-4 players, which takes about 20 minutes to play. Featuring hand painted artwork created by local Filipino artists.

HOW TO WIN
At the end of the game the player with the most butterflies wins!

SETUP
Deal 3 flower cards to each player. Then place the remaining deck of cards to the side and reveal the top three flower cards, placing them in a line as cards that may be drawn.

Place the butterfly circle in the middle of the table and the butterfly deck on it. Reveal the top three butterfly cards and place them around the circle matching to their color.

Left of the dealer goes first.

ON YOUR TURN
Draw a flower card from one of the three revealed or the top of the deck.

Create a ‘garden’ by laying down 3 of the same color flower cards.

Flower cards come in 7 colors of the rainbow. There are also ‘double-color’ flower cards which may be one of two colors. And there’s also a ‘wild’ flower card that can be any color.

Collect any revealed wild butterflies that are the same color as your garden by laying them on your garden.
In addition, you may STEAL all butterflies from an opponent’s garden IF it is the SAME COLOR and WEAKER. Determine a garden’s strength by counting the total number of ‘butterfly symbols’ on the corners of each flower that match your garden’s ‘color’. (solid color flower cards are ‘stronger’ than double-color or wild-color flower cards).

At the end of your turn reveal a new wild butterfly from the top of the deck. A player with a matching color flower garden may immediately collect this butterfly. But they must pay attention because if they miss it before the next person’s turn then another player may steal it for their themselves!

The game ends when there are no wild butterflies around the wild butterfly circle. This usually happens when atleast one garden of every color has been made. The game may also end when there are no butterfly cards in the deck.

There are also 7 ‘sparkly butterflies’ which have a special ability that activates when they are collected by a player. See the reference cards for these. Example: “draw 2 flower cards”, or “reveal a flower card and steal this color butterfly”.
