A Hard Day’s Knight is set in a fantasy medieval world. The player is able to select a knight from one of the four different territories and goes on an epic quest.

The game is played by moving your knight around a game board and visiting the four different territories. Each territory has unique monsters that the knight must defeat to obtain one of the four keys to the Valley of the Gods. Once a knight has required all four keys they may enter the Valley of the Gods to fight the Guardian. Only if the Guardian is defeated a player wins the game and becomes the supreme champion of the land.

To defeat a monster the Knight plays a Battle cards to perform an attack move. The attack moves range in difficulty, with more difficult attacks causing more damage to the Knight’s foe. To calculate if the attack move is successful the player rolls a D12 and if the number is equal or greater than the number on the battle card the knight hits their target. If a knight fails an attack roll, they are hit and will take damage. The knight will also collect gold, magical items and be able to level up abilities to aid them on their quest.
