The Industrial Revolution in Yorkshire began in the late 18th century. Inventions and improvements to manufacturing processes, advantageous geology and geography as well as established local practices and traditions, determined the progress of industrial change.

In the game of the 'IRONMASTERS OF YORKSHIRE' players take on the role of the eminent Yorkshire's ironmasters in the times of the Industrial Revolution. The goal of the game is to gain the most Industrial Points (IPs) at the end of the game.
Players will use their own mines and explosives in order to extract resources like coal, iron ore, alloying metals and sometimes even the gold. All these measures will be taken with a view to producing the steel using their own Bessemer converter. During the game each player can score immediate Industrial Points through developing, extracting the resources, producing the steel, establishing the companies and constructing railways, docks and bridges. At the end of the game, Industrial Points for established companies, investments, architect tiles along with the end-of-game bonuses for the majority in the Yorkshire towns, will be added to the points the players gained over the course of the game.

GAME OVERVIEW

This cards and tokens driven economic strategy board game is played up to 7 rounds. Every round is divided into nine phases:
1. First player change (clockwise manner)
2. Event Card reveal (9 Event cards)
3. Dividend and Trading: Players will generate income (gold) and resources depending on their progress in the game (Investment Track and Trading House)
4. Seaport of Hull: Will be refilled with the resources, which will be available for all players (Construct action).
5. Action Cards: This phase is divided into two turns. In every turn, each player will play 2 Action cards (out of 4 dealt at the beginning of the game) and refill their hands back to 4 Action cards.
6. Consumption: players must pay resources for their established companies.
7. Commodities:
a) City Markets - if any player invested resources in a City Market, players with already established companies in the corresponding cities score Industrial Points,
b) Railways - resources will be moved clockwise to the next available railway on the Game Board (if any).
c) Docks - resources will be moved counter-clockwise to the next available dock on the Game Board (if any).
d) Seaport of Hull - unused resources will be removed.
8. Deed Market and Construction Contracts- both will be refreshed.
9. End of the round - End game check.

Each Action card can be played in a few ways:

1. Use any Action card to perform an Action: Development, Mining, Smelting

2. Use a city printed on the Action card (Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, York and Bradford) as a location to perform an Action: Investment, Establish, Construct

3. Use a resource printed on the Action card to perform an Action: Collect

4. Use a Character and text printed on the Action card to perform enhanced main action:

Main Actions (and Characters to enhance the main action)):

DEVELOPMENT (engine building) - develop a Player Board to ensure efficient mining for the resources, steel production, explosives production and building up the capacity (ENGINEER, POWDERMAN).

MINING - Extracting the resources using the explosives (MINER).

SMELTING - Producing the steel (SMELTER, IRONMASTER).

INVESTMENT - investing resources into one of five City Markets (Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, York and Bradford) to move up on the Investment Track (INVESTOR,THIEF).

ESTABLISH- pay required resources and fulfill all conditions shown on the Company Deed card (MAYOR, FINANCIER, ARCHITECT, WATCHMAN):

- to score end game IPs for the established Company

- to score ongoing IPs (if the corresponding City Market was used to invest in.)

- to score a lucrative endgame bonus for the majority in the city.

CONSTRUCT - pay required resources to construct Bridges, Railways, Docks (MAYOR, ARCHITECT)

- to score ongoing IPs, perform additional main action and collect additional resources from the Seaport of Hull.

- to score a lucrative end game bonus for the majority in the city.

- Bridges provide additional game tokens and break a tie for the majority in the city.

- Railways and Docks - during construct action half of the resources will be placed on the Game Board and can be used by all players to establish new companies or in the Consumption phase.

COLLECT - collect a resource printed on the Action card (DOCKER).

Free main Actions (don’t require playing an Action Card):

LOAN - Players can take 5 gold from the general supply.

PURCHASE - Players pay 3 gold to draw one Company Deed card. A Company Deed card is needed to perform Establish action.

RECRUIT - Players can pay 1 gold and discard an Action card from the hand in order to get a new Action card.
