Translated and edited from the website of the publisher:
THE GAME
Malstrom is a exciting and artful game for two to four persons. The playing time is about half an hour. At the beginning of the game 49 cards are layed out with their face down. Therewith, the hidden cards take the function of a chessfield. The goal of the game is to collect most of the couples. It is not enough, just to remember the position of each card. It is equally important to cleverly plan ahaed your own moves.
THE CONCEPT
Malstrom is published in several editions. For each edition, a, as far as possible, well thumbed book is been used. The single pages of the book are furnished with motives. Out of these pages fragments are generated, which in pairs result in collages. The motives of the respective edition are inspired by the content, the theme, or the author of the book.
Nerved river-silicics with pores, breaches and twinkling inclusions are used as tokens in the game.
The selection of these stones is determined by respective theme and in a way that an ensemble forms. In the basic version, each Malstrom is stored within a cartridge (ca. 25 cm x 35 cm x 4 cm) of 13mm thick three-corrugated cardboard. It contains 49 cards (34 cards with motives, 15 without), four river-silicics, the rules, a copy of the impressums of the used book, the number of the respective game and a signature.
A single cards measures: ca. 6,5 x 6,5 cm
