After the Romans' withdrawal in the early 5th century, Celtic rule over Britannia is seriously threatened. The fleets of Germanic peoples arriving on the eastern and southern coasts of the island are increasingly numerous. These are tribes of rugged men who worship warrior gods and choose their leaders in assemblies of equals.

The Saxons, led by Cerdic, have settled in the south.

The Angles, under the command of Eomer, are expanding their territories in the east.

The Jutes, led by the legendary Hengist, have moved north in the game setting, although historically they were found in the southeast.

The Britons, whose king is Vortigern, are the legitimate Celtic rulers of Britannia, although they are in decline and have retreated to the west.

Each of them commands armies to expand their domains and fight for the resources produced by the lands of Britannia. These resources can be invested in recruiting new troops and building villages, ships, and fortresses. But there can only be one victor, and it will be the one who demonstrates the greatest power.
