Resurrected from the dead after 15 years out of print, in Grave Robbers From Outer Space: Director's Cut!, you as a B-Movie director build up your own film with Location, Character, and Prop, and Special Effect cards while defending against Hollywood Creatures.
Differing from the original game, rather than using a single communal deck to draw from, GROS now focuses upon players building their own custom movie decks, CCG style, to play head-to-head. The initial release is made up of ten 16 card Feature Packs, each pack based upon a movie genre — new players and seasoned players alike can simply shuffle two or three together and play. However, those who are savvy can build their own decks from scratch.
Popcorn, the resource system introduced in the Resurrected Edition, has been retained, balanced, and expanded upon. In order to play cards, you need to meet their Popcorn costs by "tipping" cards already played in your movie with a popcorn bucket icon, or discarding cards from your hand.
Finally, Roll the Credits cards - where they still exist for Classic play - have been replaced with the new game-ending mechanic: Plot Twists — secret goals kept face-down on the table that trigger from in-game actions. Bank a Plot Twist to lock in points. Bank the requisite number of Plot Twists and the final scores are tallied.
