Awakened Animal Adventurers gives you 30 beast or plant options—all the Small and Medium ones that appear in the Basic Rules—to choose from instead of a fantasy race. Each comes with a 1st-level pregen character.
The awaken spell is a 5th-level bard or druid spell that gives an animal or plant sentience, a language, and (for plants) the ability to move. This supplements imagines that some of those awakened creatures become adventurers and puts options in the hands of players to make that happen.
