Players act as Hanseatic merchants transporting salt from Lübeck to ports to exchange for goods, which are stored or traded. Because maritime travel involves risks like storms and pirates, players share cogs with their neighbors to distribute cargo safely. The first merchant to completely fill their storage card successfully wins the game.
