"The Cross-Word Building Card Game". This is an Australian entry among the crossword-based card games which were very popular in the 1930s. The game is for 2 or more, with two decks being used if 5 or more play.
Ten cards are dealt to each player. During their turn, a player may do one of the following:
Lay down a complete word from their hand.
Add letters to an existing word to make another word, either in-line or crossing it as in a crossword puzzle. Adding "S" to make plurals is not allowed.
Change an existing word into a different word by removing one or more letters and adding one or more letters from the hand. Cards not removed must remain in the same order.
Discard a card and draw a card from the top of the deck or discard pile.
When one player empties their hand, each other player scores the sum of the values of the cards still in hand. Consonants are 2 points each, vowels are A 25, E 20, I 15, O 10, U 5. When one player's total reaches 100 or more, the player with the lowest score wins.
