THE SITUATION Spring 1813. Napoleon´s 1812 invasion of Russia ended in catastrophy and the loss of practically the entire army. Prussia has switched sides and they and the Russians are now invading the lands of Napoleon´s German client states. Austria has so far opted for neutrality but is biding its time to intervene. Napoleon, in a impressive administrative feat, has hastily raised a new army and is now returning to Germany to reverse the situation. The Spring campaign saw the Coalition forces pushed almost to the breaking point and only saved by the Truce of Pläswitz, which allowed both sides a long period of rest and buildup. The Fall campaign would be a totally different kind of campaign with 2 massive opposing armies fighting a series of battles which culminated Napoleon´s defeat at the battle of Leipzig - the largest battle in world history at that time. Will Napoleon and his hastily raised army be able to break up the Coalition and restore French dominance over Germany or will 1813 become the year of German liberation? THE GAME 1813: The Struggle for Germany is a 2-player game that simulates the 1813 campaigns in Germany at the operational level. There are scenarios covering both the Spring campaign and the Fall campaign as well as rules for linking them into a combined game. It is volume 2 in the "Marshals & Quartermasters" series which is an easy to play card-driven system that utilizes secret order placement which ensures constant tension and little to no downtime. As befits the period, the system features a strong focus on logistic planning and attrition with a set of simple but highly narrative mechanics. —description from the designer
