In Darwin's Journey: Oceania, Charles Darwin ventures into the Pacific islands, captivated by their untamed beauty and unique life forms. Amid breathtaking discoveries, he faces setbacks and challenges that test his resolve, from harsh environments to the unpredictability of uncharted territory. As Darwin delves deeper into these natural wonders, his journey becomes a testament to the interconnectedness of life and the boundless curiosity that drives human exploration.
Players will venture into a freshly designed island map, showcasing 16 unique specimens inspired by Oceania. This expansion brings reimagined player boards with distinct bonuses and introduces a revamped main board filled with new features:
Post Office
By navigating, players can unlock a fourth correspondence tile, which evolves each turn, adding dynamic strategic possibilities.
University
Players can employ a professor to access a new scroll in the academy. This action provides one free wax seal placement per turn, offering new academic advantages.
Village Campsites
The map includes Village locations where players can perform the Establish Campsite action. Each player may place one Tent in each Village. These Tents function as Campsites but come with a unique rule: they cannot be reactivated once placed.
Silver Villages: Resolved immediately during gameplay, granting powerful bonuses.
Golden Villages: Resolved during final scoring, contributing significantly to end-game strategies.
Map Lens Locations
New Lens locations on the map can only be accessed when a player’s Ship or Explorer lands on them. These locations remain inaccessible by any other means, introducing an exciting layer of challenge.
Hazard Track
This new mechanic transforms gameplay by introducing hazards that increase the difficulty of exploration and discovery. Players accumulate hazards that may trigger end-of-round penalties for everyone affected. However, the player with the highest hazard level receives a one-time bonus that can be strategically used during the game, creating a risk-versus-reward dynamic.
