"January 22, 1879: Isandhlwana, Zululand. British Army Destroyed! On this date the British Army suffered its greatest defeat in the history of the colonial wars. Six companies of the 24th Regiment were wiped out to a man and nearly a thousand members of the British Army were killed. In addition, the regimental colors were lost and two twelve pounders were captured by the Zulus."
