Begird is played on a hexagonally tessellated board surrounded by an odd multiple of three perimeter islands. The object is to form a group of your own stones such that:
1. Your group connects to at least three islands.
2. The shortest possible sequence of islands that contains your three islands essentially surrounds more than half of the board.
The game of Y is a special case of Begird. When the number of islands is the minimum allowable, three, Begird is Y.
