Based on the original 1969-70 game show aired on NBC (see below), each round a trivia question is read. The questions are slightly different from most trivia games in that the answers are always numeric (such as "What is the area of Manhattan Island in square miles?"). Each member of each couple (or team), without conferring with their partner, writes down their answer.

When all answers are in, the team compares notes and computes the average of their two answers. The correct answer is then revealed, and the team whose average is the closest wins the round and $100. The first team to reach $1,000 wins.

NBC/Hasbro's "bookshelf" line included several game show-esque board games including The Mating Game, Rhyme Time, Trivia, Chain Letters, and It Takes Two. Of these, only the last was actually based on a game show (albeit one played only by celebrities)...and yet contains no hint of this aside from a slightly similar logo, resulting in a generic-looking game that less-knowledgeable game show fans may inadvertently pass on.
