Lazer Chess is played with an ordinary Chess set with the provided stickers applied to some pieces to distinguish them. It also requires a record pad (included).
Pieces are named after spaceships, e.g. Starfighter, Deth[sic] Star. They do not capture by replacement as in Chess; instead pieces fire at each other from a distance. Every piece has a strength which, along with the distance from the target, determines how much damage it does. The damage is deducted from the target's strength; when a piece reaches zero it is removed. The current strengths of the pieces are tracked on the pad.
The object of the game is to capture the enemy Command Vessel.
